PROJECT CHALLENGE

The recent Shieldhall project is the largest grit removal task ever carried out in Scotland. Enviro-Clean worked in conjunction with WGM as the main contractor, and the Scottish Water Manage Delivery Team. We were tasked with removing grit, rags and stone from the main inlet Delta Channel going into Shieldhall WWTW in collaboration with the primary contractor WGM.

The amount of grit was restricting the flow to treatment causing damage to the infrastructure such as inlet screens, and sending grit through the plant, making the site inefficient.

SERVICE DELIVERED

Enviro-Clean provided a comprehensive solution to solve the project. We used our in-house plant, including our high performance DISAB Q20 Vacloader and Water Jetting Recycler, together with our 22m Long Reach Tracked Excavator and D:MAX Screening Unit which separates the materials into skips. Over 3,100 tonnes were removed from the main inlet Delta Channel, PST/Storm Tanks, and the Storm Overflow Culvert. Enviro-Clean and WGM began the project in October 2022, with the contract running for a short of 2 years.

SERVICE BENEFITS TO CLIENT

Environmental Impact – Due to our on-site D:MAX Grit and Rag Screening Equipment, we were able to consider the environmental impact of this project with less sewage contaminated waste taken to landfill and a reduced carbon footprint of our machinery remaining on-site. 3,000 tonnes turned into Green Waste for Composting, with only 100 tonnes to Landfill.
